Will Macintyre Launches Fundraising Campaign for iMRI Technology
Over the past year, many people have followed the journey of GB3 driver Will Macintyre, after he was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer. A condition known as XLP1.
Now, alongside his family, Will has launched a major fundraising campaign. The goal is to raise £6 million to help bring intraoperative MRI (iMRI) technology to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge to improve the experience of future patients facing complex diagnoses and treatment.
The campaign is driven by Will’s own experience of the healthcare system. Since September 2025, he has spent eight months in and out of hospital, attending countless appointments, undergoing scans, biopsies, surgery, pre-operative assessments and follow-up imaging as doctors worked to understand and treat his condition.
Reflecting on that process, Will has spoken about how many of those separate appointments and procedures could potentially have been streamlined through the use of iMRI technology. iMRI technology provides real-time MRI imaging during surgery, so clinicians can access critical information while a procedure is taking place. This will reduce the need for additional operations, repeat scans and extended treatment pathways.
For patients and families already dealing with the uncertainty of a serious diagnosis, the use of iMRI could mean fewer hospital visits, faster clinical decision-making and a more efficient route through treatment.
Rather than simply moving on from his own experience, Will is using it to help raise awareness of how advancements in medical technology can improve patient care for others in the future.
As one of the UK’s most promising young racing drivers, Will is well known for his focus and determination on track. Through this fundraising campaign, he is applying that same commitment to a cause that could have a lasting impact on countless patients and families.
At iNREACH, we’re pleased to support Will by helping to share the campaign and raise awareness of the difference iMRI technology could make. We encourage our network, partners and the wider motorsport community to learn more about the initiative and support it where they can.
We wish Will and everyone involved in the campaign every success as they work towards making this important technology a reality.
