A Stem Cell Step Around Brands Hatch for Will

On Saturday 26 September, Brands Hatch will become the setting for a special show of support for international racing driver Will Macintyre, as his family, friends and supporters come together to take a step around the circuit for Will.

The event will coincide with Will being admitted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital to begin his treatment. His first step will involve spending six weeks in hospital isolation as he undergoes treatment for XLP1, an exceptionally rare condition with only around 15 Neuro XLP1 cases diagnosed worldwide.

Will’s life changed dramatically last summer when he was forced to put his promising racing career on hold after becoming seriously unwell. Following months of hospital appointments, tests and treatment, he was finally diagnosed with XLP1. His only potential cure is a stem cell transplant, but he has not yet found the lifesaving match he desperately needs.

As Will takes this incredibly difficult first step towards treatment, his supporters will take a step alongside him at Brands Hatch.

Anthony Nolan volunteers will be at Brands Hatch from 10am to 3pm, inviting eligible members of the public aged 16–30 to join the stem cell register. This will be the last stem cell swabbing event organised by Will’s family as he begins this next stage of his treatment.

Joining the register is quick, free and simple and your swab could determine whether you are the person who can save Will’s life.
