Racing for a Reason: #TeamWill37 Takes to Silverstone to Support Addenbrooke’s iMRI Appeal

The home of British motorsport will become the setting for a very different kind of race this summer, as 160 drivers unite at Silverstone to help transform the future of brain surgery.

Hosted by Will Macintyre, the #TeamWill37 charity karting endurance event will see 40 teams compete across an action-packed day of racing, all with one shared goal: raising vital funds for a new intraoperative MRI (iMRI) scanner at Addenbrooke’s Hospital.

The event will feature:

• 40 teams and 160 drivers competing on Silverstone’s world-class karting circuit.
• A 30-minute practice session to prepare for the challenge ahead.
• A qualifying session, with a prize awarded to the fastest team on pole position.
• A thrilling two-hour endurance race, complete with strategic pit stops.
• A silent auction featuring exclusive prizes and experiences.
• A charity raffle, giving guests even more opportunities to support the appeal.

Will’s Story

For Will, this fundraiser is about helping future patients benefit from the very latest technology.

Having experienced first-hand the importance of accurate imaging during treatment, he is passionate about supporting Addenbrooke’s Hospital in its campaign to introduce an intraoperative MRI (iMRI) scanner.

Unlike conventional imaging, an iMRI provides surgeons with real-time scans during brain surgery, allowing them to make informed decisions while the patient is still in theatre. By giving surgical teams live imaging throughout a procedure, the technology can help maximise tumour removal, reduce the need for follow-up operations and ultimately improve outcomes for patients.

The #TeamWill37 fundraiser is about much more than racing. It’s about bringing together the motorsport community to invest in technology that has the potential to change lives.
